Creating a Vision for the Future: Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Content Strategy Proposal

Recently, I was tasked with creating a content strategy proposal for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. This report focuses on creating a clear, effective structure for the website’s content, ensuring that information is easy to find, engaging, and reflective of the tribe’s values.

My goal for this project was to enhance how the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) website communicates with its audience and aligns with the tribe’s goals.

Analyzing CSKT

I took a deep dive into the website’s existing content to evaluate its strengths and weaknesses. The goal was to develop a strategy that would not only improve user experience but also highlight key priorities for CSKT—such as its history, culture, and ongoing initiatives. A big part of this work involved deciding which content to prioritize and how to organize it in a way that serves both the tribe and its users.

One of the most valuable resources I used throughout this project was the Content Strategy Toolkit by Meghan Casey. This toolkit acted as a roadmap, offering step-by-step guidance on evaluating content, identifying gaps, and finding opportunities for improvement.

It helped me create a content plan that is both practical and aligned with the tribe’s long-term vision for their website. By focusing on content alignment and organization, I was able to propose changes that would make the site more accessible and user-friendly.

What I’ve Learned

Throughout this project, I learned that content strategy isn’t just about fixing a website—it’s about building a platform that truly represents the mission and values of CSKT while making it easier for the community to engage with the tribe’s efforts.
